Chief of Police

Under state law, the Chief of Police is responsible for:

* overseeing and managing the operation of the Police and Communications Departments
* issuing General Orders, Policies and Procedures, and Rules and Regulations of the Department, subject to the approval of the Select Board

The Police Chief was instrumental in the search for a site which culminated in the construction of a new Public Safety Building in 1991, and the implementation of the D.A.R.E. and Community Policing programs.

The Chief oversees a corps of police officers, auxiliaries, police matrons, and communications personnel; all of these are appointed by the Select Board and are either employees or officers of the Town.
